Chinese proverb

"An invisible red thread connects those who are destined to meet, regardless of time, place or circumstances. The thread may stretch or tangle but will never break."

Back to School

Coming home from vacation is always a bit of a bummer,
but even more so for the kids when school starts just 2 days later !

Riley, 11th grade

Aidan, 8th grade

Maura, 4th grade

Riley 16 years old
Class of 2019

Aidan 13 years old
Class of 2022

Maura 9 years old
Class of 2026

And sweet, sleepy Audra...up but not quite ready for 2nd grade.
Her morning meds make her sooo sleepy.
It hasn't been a problem for her to sleep for a few hours each morning during the summer,
but we are going to have to figure out a better plan now that school is back in session.

Audra 9 years old
Class of 2028

UPDATE:  two days later I managed to get better "back to school" pictures of Audra...

OBX

Our favorite week of the whole year...
is our week at the Beach!

We LOVE the Outer Banks,
which is why we don't mind driving 8 hours to get there,
when we have Jersey beaches only 2 hours away.
There just really is no comparison.

This year we spent our week "Busy Being Fabulous".

Our view was amazing !!!

And the "commute" to the beach was pretty fabulous too :)

Four little girls ready to hit the beach for the first time of the week
{Teagan, Tatum, Audra and Maura}

After enjoying the beach,
the POOL is always the next stop for my kids.
And when the pool is between the beach and the house,
it's perfect!

Sunday August 20th
{Teagan's 2nd birthday}

This is the same dress Maura wore for her 2nd birthday,
modified by grandma to make it summery.
Maura's birthday is in January so the velvet longs sleeves didn't quite work in August.

She was so very excited about her "Cars" themed birthday party and cake

Monday August 21st
{Solar Eclipse Day}
Grandma and Grampa joined us on the beach to experience the Solar Eclipse.

Even my stay-at-home Riley "toughed" it out in the sun and ocean while waiting for the big event.

Grandpa taught the kids how to safely view the eclipse using the pinhole method with paper plates.
And it really did work!

A kind beachgoer was passing out viewing glasses to those who didn't have any,
such as our family.

Tuesday August 22nd  {Riley's 16th birthday}
I woke up before the sun to watch the gorgeous sunrise.

Once the sun was up my Mom and I headed out for birthday donuts.
Duck Donuts are so yummy!
There are no displays full of donuts in this donut shop.
You order the donuts topped to your liking and then watch them being made before your eyes...

They come out fresh and warm and are placed directly in your box:

Then they frost and top them individually according to your order.
And when you get home to eat them they are still warm and melt in your mouth!

Riley's birthday breakfast:

Riley actually considered it, but in the end did not join Aidan and Dad for some morning fishing on the pier.

We took the girls up to walk along the pier and a very friendly fisherman gave them a lesson in fishies.

And Maura was interested enough to give fishing a try.

Then we were off to the beach...

The late afternoon breeze is perfect for kite flying...

Cake and a "party" for the birthday boy:

Seems Maura caught the fishing bug as she wanted to go with Daddy for some evening fishing on the pier.
She was super excited about her first catch (above)
and her double catch (below)

Other random fun from the week:

Audra riding the waves...

Pretty pictures on the beach...

More fishing...

and Daddy even caught the Pier's mascot fish, a Spadefish.
The locals were pretty excited !!

Pool fun...

Burying babies in the sand...

Matching sister outfits...

Ghost crab hunting on the beach...

The obligatory OBX sweatshirt picture...

 Good-bye OBX 2017,
it was a week full of fun and family with many great memories made!
