Chinese proverb

Adoption Day

Our first night with Audra went very well.  She hasn't cried at all.  She has even cracked a bit of a smile a few times.  She puts her arms up for us to hold her, and she willingly goes to either one of us.  She was a little fussy at bedtime last night so we both laid down with her and played some Cantonese children's songs on the iPod.  It didn't take her very long to fall asleep then.  She woke up around 4:00am so we fed her some snacks and played for a little while.  An hour later we turned out all the lights and went back to bed for a few more hours.

Today we went back to the same Civil Affairs office for the actual adoption.  Yesterday, when we received her was the start of the 24 hours "harmonious period".  Today we would have been allowed to say that we don't want to proceed with the adoption of her...can you even imagine?!  So we quickly acknowledged that, YES, we would like to proceed and we promised to never abandon her.  We had our family picture taken, gave gifts to the officials, answered some questions and signed some more papers.

And that was it...Audra is ours and we are hers, forever and EVER!

We celebrated in true American style with dinner at McDonald's.  I don't usually prefer McDonald's at home but it tasted so good today!  I was only able to get 3 bites of my cheeseburger before Audra claimed it as her own...and finished it!
