22 hours

Audra was only home from the hospital for 22 hours when we needed to take her back. The fevers came back...with a vengeance!  They were hitting 105 EVERY six hours, and she was shaking and crying terribly during them.  I feel so helpless watching her endure this. All I can do is give her Tylenol or Motrin and hold cool cloths on her tiny, burning up little body.  When we got to the hospital her bloodwork showed that her levels had trended up again.  They have so many people and teams of doctors putting their heads together trying to figure this out. Whatever it is, it isn't simple. It is quite clear from her bloodwork that something is going on in her body.

And I feel so bad for Riley, Aidan and Maura who held up so well while we were in China for 2.5 weeks...to only have 5 days of (jet lagged) family time together at home before this illness showed up and become our priority. The other night Aidan said "Mom, it feels like you are still in China."  My heart sank.  When we told Maura we had to take Audra back to the hospital she cried...she didn't want us to go...she just wanted everyone to be home together.  They are strong kids but this is not easy.

  1. Shannon,

Sorry to hear that Audra is back in the hospital again. I will continue to pray for her. Riley is doing a good job getting his homework done at school so you won't have any extra work at home to take care of. My son had a similar situation with a virus and visits to CHOP. In the end after three months it cleared up and all they could say was "virus of unknown origin". Hope this will soon get better for Audra! Nancy
